In 2009 I curated Swifty’s first ever exhibition. Ian Swift (better known as Swifty), a respected graphic designer and visual artist from the UK, was a big influence in my formative years as a creative. His typography and style infused into the stuff I enjoyed: jazz, hip hop, military and graffiti. More than anything it was his approach to creating that really resonated: he favored the hand-made, do-it-yourself rawness, and irreverence. The solo exhibition brought all that to Melbourne—a first for Australia and Swifty—featuring all new work, including a live-painted car.
